World game
After the Mets left the go-ahead run on base in the sixth, the Red Sox came to bat in the top of the seventh against New York reliever Roger McDowell. Barrett started off the inning by drawing a walk, then advanced to second on a groundout by Bill Buckner. dream festival spotify Jim Rice then hit a ground ball to third that Knight misplayed, putting runners on the corners with one out. McDowell then got Evans to ground out to the left side, but since Boston had called for a hit-and-run, the Mets were unable to convert a double play and get out of the inning; Barrett scored on the groundout to give the Red Sox the lead. The Mets avoided further damage, though, as Rice was thrown out at home after trying to score from second on a single by Rich Gedman for the third out.
• Hall of Famers Willie Stargell (1979 World Series) and Max Carey (1925 World Series) are the only players to club at least three extra-base hits in a winner-take-all Game 7. Both did so to help deliver the Pirates a world championship.
Game 2 figured to be a classic pitching matchup, between the Mets’ young phenom Dwight Gooden and Boston’s own young pitching sensation Roger Clemens, but neither pitcher went beyond five innings. The Red Sox scored first in the top of the third inning, following a leadoff walk to Spike Owen, when Keith Hernandez fielded a Clemens bunt, but threw it away trying to catch Owen at second base. Wade Boggs then drove in Owen with a double, Marty Barrett drove in Clemens with a single, and Bill Buckner drove in Boggs with a single to give the Sox a 3–0 lead. In the bottom half of the inning, the Mets had men on second and third base for Wally Backman, who grounded up the middle, plating Rafael Santana. Hernandez then grounded out, allowing Gooden to score and bring the Mets within one run.
“Goodbye! Oh, what a blow! What a way to top it off!” Cosell yelled as the ball bounced off the black-painted batter’s eye and into a fan’s waiting hands. “Forget about who the Most Valuable Player is in the World Series. How this man has responded to pressure.”

The player is requested to place bets on their selected race horse before the race begins. There is minimal gameplay involved; all the player can do is sit and watch to see if their horse manages to win. However, things in game begin to turn south when both the horses and their riders act strange, intended to baffle the player and induce humor.
The bidding process was originally scheduled to start in 2015, with the appointment of hosts scheduled for the FIFA Congress on 10 May 2017 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. On 10 June 2015, FIFA announced that the bid process for the 2026 FIFA World Cup was postponed. However, following the FIFA Council meeting on 10 May 2016, a new bid schedule was announced for May 2020 as the last in a four-phase process.
Eighteen countries have been FIFA World Cup hosts in the competition’s twenty-two tournaments since the inaugural World Cup in 1930. The organization at first awarded hosting to countries at meetings of FIFA’s congress. The choice of location was controversial in the earliest tournaments, given the three-week boat journey between South America and Europe, the two centers of strength in football at the time.

Game 1 world series
For the 27th consecutive year, ESPN Radio broadcast the series in the United States. Jon Sciambi did play-by-play, while Jessica Mendoza (who was part of the Dodgers’ television crew on Spectrum SportsNet LA during the regular season) and Eduardo Pérez provided color commentary and Buster Olney reported from the field. TUDN Radio broadcast the series in Spanish.
The first Series with a pair of 50-home run hitters in Judge (58) and Ohtani (54) opened quietly as Gerrit Cole, the 2023 AL Cy Young Award winner, and Jack Flaherty dueled through four scoreless innings. Judge struck out swinging in his first three at-bats before hitting a single off Brusdar Graterol with two outs in the seventh.
In the top of the ninth, Michael Kopech was sent in by Roberts to close out the ninth inning. He got the first two batters he faced to ground out but then gave up a hit to Torres that was caught at the wall by a fan. Instead of a home run, he was awarded second base on a fan interference call, and the game remained tied at 2–2. After a review, the call was upheld. After intentionally walking Juan Soto, Kopech was removed from the game and replaced by Blake Treinen, who got Aaron Judge to pop out, ending the inning. Yankees closer Luke Weaver pitched a perfect inning in the bottom of the ninth, sending the game into extra innings. In the top of the tenth, Treinen gave up a one-out single to Jazz Chisholm Jr. who then stole second base. Anthony Rizzo was intentionally walked, and Chisholm Jr. stole third. The next batter, Anthony Volpe, hit an RBI force-out that was bobbled by Tommy Edman, allowing Chisholm Jr. to score the go-ahead run, giving the Yankees a 3–2 lead.
Game 3 world series
Jazz Chisholm grounded into a fielder’s choice with Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge on first and second, respectively. Stanton singled while Judge reached via fielder’s choice after a Juan Soto walk.
Who knows? Buehler needed no leash in Game 3. Like Schmidt, he walked the first batter he faced. Unlike Schmidt, he was in command from that point forward. Buehler was in prime postseason form, carving up Yankees hitters as he went five shutout innings on two hits and two walks while striking out five. He gave the Dodgers everything they could have asked for. The bullpen didn’t even get warm until manager Dave Roberts was preparing to call upon Brusdar Graterol for the sixth inning.
On the decision to send Giancarlo Stanton on Anthony Volpe’s single in the fourth inning, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said they wanted to be aggressive in challenging the arm of Teoscar Hernández, especially when Hernández was moving to his right.
Force Buehler out of the game early, and the Yankees might have won Game 3 and put the Dodgers in a bad spot for Game 4, when they’re planning a bullpen game. Instead, the Yankees didn’t get a hit until the fourth — that baserunner was ultimately thrown out at the plate — and Buehler went five scoreless on just 76 pitches. He almost certainly could have kept going, but the Dodgers’ bullpen picked up where he left off.
“Hopefully we can go be this amazing story and shock the world,” manager Aaron Boone said. “But right now it’s about trying to get a lead, trying to grab a game, and force another one, and then on from there.”
