Game 2 world series 2024
9:11 p.m. — Max Muncy draws a walk after an eight-pitch at bat, and that’s it for Clarke Schmidt. He throws 68 pitches in 2.2 innings, allowing three runs and four walks in Game 3 https://joeyhorn.org/. Will Smith comes up with the bases loaded and two outs.
Yankees: The Yankees had to backfill Game 2 after Carlos Rodón registered only 10 outs. Jake Cousins (21 pitches), Tim Hill (14 pitches), Clay Holmes (23 pitches), and Mark Leiter Jr. (9 pitches) were all used, but an off-day between games helps. Cousins and Holmes also pitched in Game 1.

Game 1 world series
The 2024 World Series features a heavyweight battle between the No. 1 Los Angeles Dodgers and No. 1 New York Yankees. It’s the first time that the two big-market powerhouses will square off for the championship since 1981.

Shohei Ohtani led the game-tying rally in the eighth inning, smashing a double, taking third on an error and scoring on a Mookie Betts sacrifice fly. The Yankees nearly took the lead in the ninth, but a Gleyber Torres fly ball caught by a fan ended up being ruled a double.
The Yankees took a 2-1 lead into the eighth inning and a 3-2 lead into the tenth inning, but the bullpen was unable to make either lead stand up. Los Angeles capitalized on several defensive mistakes and a questionable pitching decision in the tenth. The Dodgers are three wins away from their first World Series title since 2020, and their first in a 162-game season since 1988.
It was a moment that echoed one of the most famous swings in baseball history – Kirk Gibson’s walk-off home run to win Game 1 of the 1988 World Series at the same ballpark. The parallels were uncanny: Freeman, like Gibson, is hobbled by a leg injury that has nagged him throughout the playoffs and the ball landed in the exact same grandstand that Gibson’s home run landed 36 years ago.
That lead held when Cole calmly retired Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Freeman in succession after a leadoff double from NLCS MVP Tommy Edman in the sixth. And again when the Yankees’ bullpen escaped a two-on, one-out jam in the seventh.

Game 3 world series 2024
10:11 p.m. — The Yankees get a strikeout then throw out Hernandez on the basepaths to end the top of the sixth. Buehler’s night is over, so they’ll face Brusdar Graterol out of the Dodgers’ bullpen in the bottom half of the inning.
It was not only Freeman’s third straight game with a homer to begin the 2024 World Series, it was also his fifth straight World Series game with a home run dating back to the Braves’ championship run in 2021. He joined George Springer as the only players in MLB history to accomplish the latter feat.
The buzz was back in the air after Nestor Cortes, making an appearance from the bullpen to face Ohtani, escaped a bases-loaded jam to end the third inning. After all, the Yankees were only trailing the Dodgers by three runs with a lot of game still left to play, and Aaron Judge was due up (and due) to atone for his disappointing World Series performance. After Judge wasted yet another opportunity by flying out to left, Stanton got the Yankees their first hit of the night with a double. Finally, things were cooking.
Shohei Ohtani, in his first game since suffering a subluxation of his left shoulder, did not look particularly comfortable. He wore a black harness on his left shoulder when he made the jog onto the field during player introductions, keeping his arm against his chest the whole time so as not to extend it. But in his first plate appearance of the night, the Yankees didn’t make him swing. A four-pitch walk gave him first base, where he continued to hold his left arm against his chest, making sure not to extend it. Freeman’s two-run blast ensured he would not need to sprint around the bases.
But he found an effective curveball against the New York Mets in the National League Championship Series and finally got his lively fastball back on Monday night. The Dodgers are now one win away from their first championship in four years and their first full-season title since 1988. At the most critical juncture, starting pitching has gone from the Dodgers’ biggest uncertainty to one of their greatest strengths. And their biggest concern, the overall health of first baseman and No. 3 hitter Freddie Freeman, doesn’t seem to be one at all anymore. — Alden Gonzalez
