Game 2 world series
This wildly aggressive style of single-player action felt like it broke first-person shooters out of a rut – the year before had seen Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, Battlefield Hardline, Halo 5: Guardians, and Star Wars Battlefront, all of which focused on multiplayer and didn’t age especially well poetic genres. Doom, however, has become even easier to appreciate with how well it holds up, and it’s hard not to notice its influence in the games that’ve come along since.
Look, we’re not saying that Yoshiaki Koizumi specifically made Super Mario Galaxy with stoners in mind. If you did so happen to indulge in Mario’s neon-soaked space rock-hopping adventures while utterly baked, it was a pretty excellent time.
Putting the Vania in Metroidvania marks Castlevania: Symphony of the Night as one of the most influential games in history. Despite releasing in 1997, some of the ideas that SotN introduced still influence games made today. The fear you feel as you make your way ever closer to the next checkpoint, balancing low health in the face of a barrage of enemies is iconic, and the way the castle (castles?) slowly unfolds the more abilities you learn is a design used in endless games. SotN is a lesson in not only gaming history, but also in great game design. One for the ages.
Supergiant has released a string of incredible action games since its foundation, but Hades is all at once its best game, one of the finest takes on and best introductions to the roguelike genre, and a fresh, vibrant, and beautiful take on Greek mythology. As the son of the titular Hades, Zagreus, you’ll try escaping the underworld again and again and again, and Hades makes that Sisyphean task constantly rewarding (and not just because Sisyphus is actually a character). Hades places as much an emphasis on the wide array of powers you earn every run, which allows for so much variety in how you approach a run, as it does on permanent progression, either in unlocking weapons, overarching stats, and more. But it doubles down on those rewards, with new bits of story, character development, and lore being just as important to every death and rebirth as the mechanical knowledge and upgrades you unlock. That’s bolstered by a suite of incredible voice performances, fun twists on Greek myth, and a fantastic soundtrack that makes each attempt at breaking free memorable. – Jonathon Dornbush (Read Our Review)
World game
The music, the sounds of the howling beasts, and the desolation of places like the Caspian sea region or the Taiga forest are so unsettling that will make players think twice before replaying this adventure. Absolutely nerve-wrecking.
Worldle is a game inspired by the popular Wordle game, only it tests your knowledge of geography. The rules of the game are similar to Wordle, but there are some differences: You have an unlimited number of guesses and you only have the distance / direction of the mystery country in the clues. This game is great for kids as an assistant in school or college, as well as for adults to remember the maps of countries around the world.
Windows: Unzip the file contents into a new game folder (do not overwrite previous installs of this game) and execute “worlds.exe”. If the exe is blocked from executing, right-click to open the app properties and check the ‘unblock’ box)
