Game 2 world series
Remember who they used to be, back before they reincarnated themselves as the 2008 Phillies? They won 10 of their last 31 games this season against teams not known as “the Nationals.” That’s not good, right? But now that same team is 10-and-freaking-2 in this postseason. And even seeing it doesn’t seem quite adequate to fully believe it.
Altuve was inadvertently involved in a bit of a controversy in the bottom of the fifth, when he was forced out at second. Manager Dusty Baker challenged the play, suggesting that Edmundo Sosa did not touch the second base bag when he received the throw.
The decision to pinch-hit Trevino against the lefty Vesia says more about New York’s thin bench than it does Trevino. Trevino, the backup catcher, hit .189/.282/.344 against lefties this year. The other option was top prospect Jasson Domínguez, a switch-hitter who is significantly better against righties. He slashed .185/.264/.246 against lefties in Triple-A.
The Dodgers and Yankees just played a Game 1 that met the moment. A Series with a staggering number of superstars and featuring two of the most storied franchises in professional sports is off to an incredible start after Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman launched the first walk-off grand slam in the history of the Fall Classic.

Any injuries of note?D-backs: Outfielder Jake McCarthy was removed from the roster just before Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series after suffering a strained right oblique. He is not expected to return.
Game 3 world series
Saturday night was payback time, with left-hander Alex Vesia throwing Treinen a life preserver after Treinen yielded a run, gave up two more singles and hit a batter and pushed his pitch count to 33 as the Dodgers moved perilously close to blowing a three-run lead in Game 2 of the World Series.
Saturday’s 4-2 victory by the Los Angeles Dodgers over the New York Yankees averaged 13.44 million on Fox, Fox Deportes and streaming. That is a 65% increase over last year’s Game 2, which at 8.15 million was the second least-viewed World Series game on record.
“Hopefully we can go be this amazing story and shock the world,” New York manager Aaron Boone said. “But right now it’s about trying to get a lead, trying to grab a game, and force another one, and then on from there. But we’ve got to grab one first.”
NEW YORK – They crammed in crowded 4 and D trains, packed the Bronx’s sports bars and streamed through the Yankee Stadium gates, ready to lend their voices to the comeback cause. But it took all of three batters for those pinstripe-clad fans to be quieted, all of three batters for the seemingly unstoppable Dodgers to assert themselves in one of the most intimidating road environments in sports.
Before we proceed, I’d like to point out that the over had been very fruitful for weeks. The LCS over was 9-2 and Game 1 in the World Series hit. Game 2 did not, though, and we’re faced with the reality that almost any other result off Freddie Freeman’s bat in the 10th inning in Game 1 meant the under hit.
