This marked the last World Series in which the visiting team’s championship presentation took place in the clubhouse instead of the playing field. Following the 2017 World Series, every World Series presentation would take place on the field, regardless of whether or not the home or road team won the championship.
Following the team’s win in Game 7, Cubs fans congregated outside of Wrigley Field and the surrounding Wrigleyville neighborhood to celebrate the championship. On November 4, the team’s victory parade began at Wrigley Field and headed down Lake Shore Drive and Michigan Avenue at downtown for a noon rally at Grant Park. Country singer Brett Eldredge sang a cover of «Go, Cubs, Go» during the rally. The city of Chicago estimated that over five million people attended the World Series parade and rally celebration, making it one of the largest gatherings in history, and according to some sources, the largest gathering in the history of the United States. After the season, the Cubs chose to make two traditional White House visits during then-President (and White Sox fan) Barack Obama’s final week in office on January 16, 2017, and during President Donald Trump’s tenure on June 28, 2017.

The Yankees reclaimed the lead 6-5 in the sixth on Stanton’s sacrifice fly, but a pair of sacrifice flies from second baseman Gavin Lux and right fielder Mookie Betts gave the Dodgers their first lead of the game at 7-6 in the top of the eighth.
The 120th Major League Baseball World Series concluded on Wednesday Oct. 30 with an impressive win for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Facing off against the New York Yankees, the Dodgers secured a commanding victory as the series concluded 4-1. The Dodgers dominated the first three games, winning the first 6-3 and the second and third 4-2. The Yankees bounced back in game four with a decisive 11-4 win, however, the Dodgers denied any real attempt for a comeback during an extremely tight game five, clinching the series with a score of 7-6.
They used a bullpen game to blow out the Padres with their season on the line while on the road in Game 4 of the NLDS then came back to Dodger Stadium and shut them out to advance into the next round. They used an overwhelming offensive attack to dispatch the surging New York Mets, accumulating an NLCS-record 46 runs. And then they overwhelmed the high-powered Yankees.
When Buehler struck out Verdugo to end the game, the Dodgers poured onto the field to celebrate between the mound and first base, capping a season in which they won 98 games and finished with the best regular-season record.
World series 1 game highlights
* Giancarlo Stanton remains in the cleanup spot, which makes sense considering how white-hot he’s been with the bat as of late. Austin Wells will hit eighth; the usual cleanup hitter against right-handed pitchers.
Realmuto came through again in the 10th, hammering a home run to right field to put the Phillies ahead by one. Philadelphia held on after an Alex Bregman double in the 10th and took a Game 1 that looked like it was over early.
J.T. Realmuto signed a five-year, $115.5 million contract going into 2021, re-signing with a Phillies team that finished under .500. The Phillies then went 82-80. Now Realmuto is the most important player in what could become a Game 1 victory in the World Series after leading the Phillies in WAR. Paying big money for great players works.
Pretty impressive to see a relief pitcher make that play on the biggest stage like you bouncing a tennis ball against a wall while you’re waiting for school to start. Graterol did allow a single to Aaron Judge, but he was able to get through the heart of the Yankees’ lineup without allowing a run while striking out Giancarlo Stanton.
2001 world series 7 game
For the decisive Game Seven on Sunday night, November 4, Arizona manager Bob Brenly7 started 34-year-old Curt Schilling on three days of rest.8 Schilling was 4-0 with a 0.88 ERA in five postseason starts. Although the Diamondbacks were only one game above .500 by the end of April, Gonzalez had a particularly memorable start to the season, in which he tied the MLB record with 13 home runs during the month of April. The Diamondbacks found greater success in May and June, and at one point had a six-game lead in the NL West. During this span, the team won nine consecutive games, and Johnson tied the MLB record with 20 strikeouts in a nine-inning game. The six game lead did not last long however, and by the end of July, the Diamondbacks were a half game behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the West. A resurgent August pushed the team back into first place, a spot they maintained for the rest of the season. By the end of the season, several Diamondbacks players had put up exceptional statistics: Curt Schilling had the most wins of any pitcher in MLB that year with 22, while Johnson nearly broke the single season strikeout record with 372. Johnson and Schilling also had the two lowest earned run averages (ERA) in the NL, with 2.49 and 2.98 respectively. Gonzalez ended the season with a .325 batting average and 57 home runs, and finished third in voting for the NL Most Valuable Player Award. The Diamondbacks were also one of the best defensive teams in MLB that year, second in fewest errors committed, and tied with the Seattle Mariners for the best fielding percentage.
Rivera’s blown save and the Yankees’ loss proved to be life-saving for Yankees utility player Enrique Wilson. Had the Yankees won, Wilson was planning to fly home to the Dominican Republic on American Airlines Flight 587 on November 12 after what would have been a Yankees victory parade down the Canyon of Heroes. But after the Yankees lost (and thus no parade occurred), Wilson decided to fly home earlier. Flight 587 would crash in Belle Harbor, Queens, killing everyone on board. Rivera later said, «I am glad we lost the World Series because it means that I still have a friend.»
The Series began later than usual as a result of a delay in the regular season after the September 11 attacks and was the first to extend into November. The Diamondbacks won the first two games at home, limiting the Yankees to just one run. The Yankees responded with a close win in Game 3, at which U.S. President George W. Bush threw out the ceremonial first pitch. In Games 4 and 5, the Yankees won in comeback fashion, hitting game-tying home runs off Diamondbacks closer Byung-hyun Kim with one out remaining in consecutive games, before winning in extra innings. The Diamondbacks won Game 6 in a blowout, forcing a decisive Game 7. In the final game, the Yankees led in the ninth inning before the Diamondbacks staged a comeback against closer Mariano Rivera, capped off by a walk-off, bases-loaded bloop single by Luis Gonzalez to clinch Arizona’s championship victory. This was the third World Series to end in a bases-loaded, walk-off hit, following 1991 and 1997, and to this date, the last Series to end on a walk-off of any kind. This series held the record for the latest date that a Series ended (November 4), until that record was tied during the 2009 World Series and broken during the 2022 World Series.
February 5, 2017. Trailing 28-3, the New England Patriots march back against the Atlanta Falcons to win Super Bowl LI, 34-28 in overtime. Some have called it the greatest Super Bowl of all time, it’s certainly one for the record books that featured the largest comeback in «big game» history.
