New world game
An equally formidable offense looms on the other side, as Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts barrel the Dodgers into the World Series for the first time since 2020. Ohtani, playing in his first postseason, reached base 17 times in the NLCS, setting a new franchise record https://iplt20lives.com/. Betts, who entered the playoffs battling October demons, has swatted four home runs.
From a bad-blood battle between the Dodgers and Padres in the NLDS — ending in Los Angeles overcoming its rival in Game 5 at home — to numerous Shohei Ohtani home runs, from the underdog Mets taking down their division foe Phillies 3-1 to the Tigers’ survival through the Wild Card round before they fell to Cleveland in five, the incoming World Series has a lot to live up to.
NEW YORK — Assuming the voting results for the Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani and the Yankees’ Aaron Judge go as we expect them to go (hint: they will), this is only the seventh World Series to feature that season’s two MVPs.
Game 4 world series 2024
Will Smith has homered and now Tommy Edman walked. The tying run will come to the plate. Luis Gil is done and Tim Hill is coming in for the lefty Shohei Ohtani. Note that Ohtani hit a hard fly ball last time, easily his best swing yet.

Freddie Freeman hit into a double play ball, but he beat the throw at first. Initially he was called out at first but review overturned the call, correctly. A bad feed from Gleyber Torres was the culprit, causing Anthony Volpe to need an extra split second on the turn. The runner on third comes home and cuts the lead to one. Clay Holmes enters the game for the Yankees.
Getting the ball first for the Yankees in Game 4 will be Luis Gil, who’s made just one appearance this October. Gil, who sported a 3.50 ERA across 29 regular-season starts, started against the Cleveland Guardians in Game 4 of the ALCS where he gave up two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out three. The 26-year-old right-hander pitched 5.2 innings in a June start against the Dodgers, giving up three runs on five hits and one walk while striking out five.
There has not been a Fall Classic sweep since the Giants swept away the Tigers in 2012. The 11 consecutive World Series without a sweep is the second-longest stretch in history, behind a 12-year streak from 1977-88.
On Friday, the Yankees were one out away from taking a 1-0 lead in this World Series and swiping home-field advantage from the Dodgers. Then Freddie Freeman hit a walk-off grand slam we’ll remember for a long, long time.
Game 2 world series
They won Game 2 of the World Series, 4-2, over the New York Yankees to take a two games to none series lead. But they lost superstar Shohei Ohtani to a left shoulder injury on a stolen-base attempt in the seventh inning.
“In a game where we really got shut down there in the middle innings, our compete to the very end was really good,” Boone said. “We gave ourselves a chance to get right back in it and even win that game off a very good reliever. I loved the at-bats there at the end, the compete, the fight. I thought even Trevy got off a good swing off Vesia.
Yamamoto walked Gleyber Torres to open the contest, and Torres advanced to second on a groundout by Juan Soto to short. Aaron Judge worked a 3-2 count against Yamamoto before he he was able to get Judge to strikeout on a slider just below his knees.
Momentum maintained. Yoshinobu Yamamoto saw to that, navigating long at-bats in the first couple innings and limiting traffic. Tommy Edman saw to it, too, slugging a solo homer in the second inning to open the scoring. And then, once Mookie Betts singled off Carlos Rodón with two outs in the third, it felt like the whole building knew what was coming. Teoscar Hernández smoked a go-ahead two-run shot. Then fans chanted “Freddie! Freddie! Freddie!” Freeman, the hero of Game 1, went back-to-back. It felt over at that point. It wasn’t over, as Blake Treinen made clear in the ninth, but it sure felt like it.
World series game
LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Dodgers took Game 1 of the World Series 6-3 on Friday after a walk-off grand slam by Freddie Freeman in the bottom of the 10th — the first walk-off grand slam in World Series history.
Despite its name, the World Series remains solely the championship of the Major League Baseball teams in the United States and Canada, although MLB, its players, and North American media sometimes erroneously refer to World Series winners as “world champions of baseball”.
The Yankees’ offensive struggles continued after Walker exited, as they couldn’t get going until they were down to their final out. Alex Verdugo hit a two-run home run in the ninth inning to cut the deficit in half, but Gleyber Torres grounded out to end the game on the next at bat.
The World Baseball Classic is held in March and the Premier12 is held in November, allowing both events to feature top-level players from all nations. The predecessor to the WBSC as the sport’s international governing body, the International Baseball Federation, also sponsored a Baseball World Cup to crown a world champion. However, because the World Cup was held during the Northern Hemisphere summer, during the playing season of almost all top-level leagues, its teams did not feature the best talent from each nation.
Gleyber Torres briefly appeared to hit a go-ahead home run, but he’s on second after umpires called it fan interference. A Dodgers fan reached over the wall in left-center and caught the ball before it could hit the wall.
