Peeta and Katniss have both survived The Hunger Games, but the Capitol is not happy. In the 75th Hunger Games—the third Quarter Quell—the tributes will be reaped from the victors of previous games. As the only surviving female tribute from District 12, Katniss is immediately thrown back into the game. Peeta chooses to return to the game in place of Haymitch, so he can protect Katniss. Before the end of the game, however, Katniss is pulled out of the competition by the rebellion. Tragically, Peeta is captured by the Capitol.
Every year, two children between the ages of twelve and eighteen, one boy and one girl, are picked from each district. These two children are referred to as ‘tributes’ and sent to the Capitol to fight the other tributes from the other districts in an all-out battle to the death in a large arena. At the end of the battle, one tribute remains and is crowned the winner. This tribute’s district then receives extra food and the tribute themselves gets to live in a mansion in the winners district of town.
Katniss and Rue form an alliance and make a plan to destroy the supplies that are keeping the Careers powerful. Rue sets fires to distract them while Katniss pieces together that they are protecting their supplies with landmines reappropriated from a Gamemaker design. When she uses the mines to explode the supplies, she is blown backwards and knocked out of commission for a few days. She returns just in time to see Rue killed by another tribute, who then quickly becomes Katniss’s first kill. As a small act of rebellion against the Capitol, which expects the tributes to dehumanize one another, Katniss sings to Rue and decorates her corpse with flowers before the body is fetched by the Capitol.
The next day the tributes are taken to have a televised interview with a television personality, Caesar Flickerman. The object is to attract sponsors. Each tribute is given three minutes on stage. Katniss does her best on stage but the real standout is Peeta who reveals that he has a crush on Katniss during the interview. But Haymitch pulls her off of him and informs her that the revelation was his idea. He felt it would endear her to the crowd.
Primrose Everdeen, also known as Prim, is Katniss’s younger sister. She has blond hair and blue eyes and a cat named Buttercup. At the beginning of the first novel, Primrose is 12 years old. Her mother is teaching her to be a healer. Katniss says that Prim is the only person she’s certain that she loves.
All about board games
This two-player game started over 40 years ago, it has now been updated with character art that fits the 21st century: The original version had only five female characters (out of 24) and no non-white characters at all. This version has 11 female characters and 14 characters of color. Kids love flipping the characters and asking inventive questions to try to guess each other’s mystery character. It’s a classic for a reason.
Three years before his short film “Le ballon rouge” (“The Red Balloon”) won an Academy Award, Albert Lamorisse submitted a patent in 1954 for a Napoleonic global war game that he created while on vacation. The company Miro streamlined the game (so long navies) and released it in 1957 as La Conquête du Monde (The Conquest of the World). Miro then turned to Parker Brothers in America, who didn’t like its militaristic name, and a salesman by the name of Elwood “Al” Davies wrote four letters on a piece paper, “R-I-S-K,” which were the first four initials of his grandchildren (via “Tortured Cardboard”). Further gameplay modifications ensued, and the game of Risk! was released in 1959, as Parker Bros’ “new continental game. The most unusual game to appear in years.”

It’s not possible (yet) to choose our life’s path in advance, and the Game of Life makes the element of chance very clear. Spin the wheel, and your future awaits you. Will you get married? Have twins? Go to college? Receive a pension? Who knows, but that’s the fun of it. And it’s hard to have the same path twice, so this is one of the classic board games that’s good for the long haul.
Most collectible and customisable card games will cost you an arm and a leg and still run out of strategic road to travel after too-few games. Summoner Wars solves both of these problems by giving you six faction decks in one box, from the devious Shadow Elves to the barbaric Swap Orcs, and adding an entire manoeuvre layer on top of the card play. Rather than forming a tableau, your cards go directly onto a gridded board, where they move, fight and enact special powers while you also worry about your hand and deck management, since you can lose not only militarily but if your deck runs out. And if you do, well, rather than just re-racking the suggested starter decks you can try tinkering, swapping in and out different faction cards to get the right balance to suit your play style. Once you’re bitten by the bug, there are lots of expansion factions to explore, too.

In the Hangman Game, the choice of initial letters can make a significant difference in the outcome. Commonly used vowels like “e,” “a,” and “o,” or frequent consonants such as “t,” “r,” and “s” are often good starting points. This approach increases the chances of guessing a letter present in the word, providing more information to work with. Similarly, if the game has reached a point where a partial word has been revealed, it is beneficial to start thinking of possible words that fit the available spaces and letters. This helps in making more accurate guesses moving forward.
