And on that note, it’s time for our October Weird and Wild Department to let you know just how one-of-a-kind the final game of the 2024 World Series really was, with help from our friends at STATS Perform, who were literally researching this stuff all night!
This key was about a complete offensive effort, one that didn’t rely strictly on Judge, Juan Soto or Giancarlo Stanton doing all of the damage. Well, Judge and Stanton homered — so did Jazz Chisholm Jr. — and those three drove in five of the six Yankees runs. The team went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and couldn’t finish off a Dodgers team that trailed by five in the fifth inning and basically ran out of relievers at the end of the eighth.

The good news is Hudson was the only bullpen arm of note that the Dodgers used in Game 4. The rest of their top arms are rested to back up Jack Flaherty, who has been the Dodgers’ steadiest pitcher since the team acquired him at the trade deadline.
Any injuries of note?Yankees: Verdugo said that he would probably be sore after making a terrific catch in the 10th inning of Game 1. Rizzo is playing through two fractured fingers on his right hand, which is a pain tolerance issue, as the fractures won’t heal until the offseason.
